Flatlock is one of the oldest decorative techniques for the serger. It is an unbalanced stitch. The stitch is used on a fold of fabric or to secure two cut edges. The tension on the needle thread is so loose that the folded or adjoining fabric can be pulled flat. The top side of the stitch looks similar to an overlock stitch that is not set on the edge of the fabric. The back side of the stitch looks like a ladder.Serger Lace
Serger lace is created with a balanced 3-thread stitch using the left needle and the widest stitch width. Heavy decorative thread is used in the loopers. The weight and colors of the thread do not have to match.
